Infection Preventionist is responsible for identifying healthcare-associated infection risks to patients and personnel through surveillance, observation and assessment. Incumbent specializes in developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting infection risk-reduction strategies through collaboration with all levels of medical center personnel. Infection Preventionist researches and develops infection control policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, nationally-recognized infection control guidelines, and recognized best practices. Preventionist gathers and analyzes epidemiologic data, develops reports to communicate findings and manage performance improvement activities to reduce infection risks. Incumbent must have effective written & oral communication skills, strong team participation and management skills and be able to demonstrate meticulous attention to accuracy with data collection and reporting. Infection Preventionist coordinates initial and on-going department-specific and facility-wide educational programs related to infection prevention and control. Practitioner plans and coordinates programs to evaluate and monitor sterile and aseptic techniques, cleaning and disinfection procedures, and sterilization processes employed by the medical center. Incumbent collaborates with and makes recommendations to department leadership to reduce or eliminate potential infection hazards and to initiate corrective action as indicated through infection surveillance and monitoring programs.
Licensure and Certification:
Current California Registered Nurse License (RN) or comparable license in a related healthcare field such as CLS/MT (ASC), D.P.M, M.D
Current BLS provider card.
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commensurate degree in a healthcare related field. Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of infection control experience in an acute care setting and specific training through APIC, CDC, and/or California Department of Health in Infection Control.
