The Eastern Virginia Medical School - Sentara Healthcare Analytics and Delivery Science Institute (EVMS-Sentara HADSI) is searching for a full time faculty at the assistant or associate professor level.
HADSI’s vision is to provide an evidence-based foundation for improved patient outcomes by fostering the development of learning healthcare systems with the efficient use of healthcare analytics skills, and stand out as a model to be emulated by other integrated health care delivery systems around the nation. HADSI leads the EVMS and Sentara efforts in applying rigorous, high-quality analytic science to the evaluation of real-world innovations aimed at improving the quality, safety and value of health care. HADSI invites applications for a faculty position. Candidates with qualifications for Assistant Professor to Associate Professor will be considered, rank offered will be based on the institutional guidelines that consider research, national recognition, institutional service and teaching elements with sustained evidence of productivity. The successful candidate may also take administrative responsibilities and serve as assistant director of HADSI.
Areas of research expertise of the candidate could include, but are not limited to, outcome/effectiveness research in health disparities (cancer, cardiovascular diseases, addiction, metabolic diseases etc), risk assessment and risk reduction, prevention and intervention, dissemination and implementation research. Ability to navigate with Sentara Healthcare partners for implementation sciences and disease and risk cohort studies is anticipated. The person filling this position will develop a vision to improve clinical/outcome/implementation/ dissemination research at EVMS and Sentara. Candidates with NIH track record and active extramural funding will receive preference. The successful candidate will join a highly competent academic team and will work very closely with HADSI staff, EVMS and Sentara healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities of a faculty member will include but not limited to;
Expected to apply for federal and other sources of support for their ongoing research activities, with the expectation of obtaining extramural funding that will cover at least 25% of their salary by the end of a three-year start-up period and at-least 50% by the end of a 5-year start-up period.
Expected to establish credentials for mentoring HADSI faculty and staff and contribute to collaborative research activities within EVMS in their area of expertise.
Faculty is required to provide HADSI services related to research methods to faculty, residents, fellows and students; including providing support in developing research designs, methodologies, analytical techniques, reporting (with respect to statistical results) and health services and outcomes research activities under the direction of the HADSI director.
Required to pursue scholarly activity, consistent with career advancement at EVMS.
Expected to develop an independent research program and maintain extramural funding for their research. Research activity is expected to be presented to subject matter peers and published in major refereed journals.
Required to work with faculty from across disciplines on research that helps address priority research areas in line with HADSI goals (see HADSI website evms.edu/hadsi)
Expected to actively participate in professional organizations relevant to their area of scientific expertise.

MD with Masters in research field and/or PhD in epidemiology, health service research, health economics, health care delivery science, healthcare analytics or a closely related field.
Capability to produce, implement and assess effectiveness in healthcare analytics research and published in high-quality journals
Capability to utilize industry standard, as well as cutting-edge research and analytical techniques.
A track record of involvement with external funding to support research in health issues.
Experience working in an institute/center/department or division with an extensive focus on health care delivery science.
