The function of the Infection Control Practitioner is to plan and implement the surveillance and education activities of North Shore Medical Centers Infection Control Program. These activities are appropriate to the Medical Center's demographics (geographic, volume of patient encounters, age of populations served, clinical focus, and number of employees). The practitioner is a consultant and educator in infection control for all hospital departments and committees.
Able to work with minimal direct assistance required
Ability to communicate effectively with all departments required
Proficient skills in computers and software management required
Proficiency with NHSN database preferred
2 or more years in a health care setting required
2 years as an Infection Control/Prevention in an acute care setting preferred
Bachelor’s Degree required
Masters Degree preferred
Certification in Infection Control required within two (2) years of hire. On-going recertification as per Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology is required
Certification in Infection Control-CIC at time of hire preferred
