The University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking applications from BC/BE internists or family medicine physicians for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, tenure earning/non-tenure earning depending upon qualifications and level of experience. Candidates must have a MD degree.
The Division of Hematology and Oncology is rapidly expanding their clinical and translational research programs in sickle cell disease under the leadership of Dr. Julie Kanter. The selected individual will be embedded within the sickle cell center. The selected individual will participate as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients in an outpatient setting. The selected individual will demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered in primary care. The individual will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs. The selected individual will participate on clinical research projects as well as giving routine primary care. The individual will work with administrative, nursing, physician, and university faculty to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote UAB’s educational and research missions.
