Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for investigating, analyzing and resolving supplier quality problems by conducting supplier quality management system audits, analyzing defect trends and leading continuous improvement projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
The role spans many activities ranging from strategic to tactical. Those activities include, but are not limited to:
Work with Purchasing and Product groups to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective actions are
Maintain and update critical supplier audit system and schedule, including international suppliers.
Conduct supplier audits to help drive process standardization, waste elimination and drive continuous
Monitor, communicate and improve key supply chain KPI’s, including Supplier Back Orders, Past Due, DPPM and Waste
Establish specific short- and long-term supplier quality
Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances including 8D, DMAIC, and A4 problem solving techniques.
Work with the engineering, procurement and sourcing teams to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply. Help develop common inspection and test parameters at Sierra and at supplier
Develop long-term supplier relationships and generate and implement cost reduction and quality improvement
Support Production and Distribution in the evaluation and qualification of new supplier materials following a defined new product development process. Manage NPI phases for the SQA Help develop PPAP and PCP processes within supply base.
Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects to increase supplier capability to consistently meet Sierra requirements. Projects may include: process analysis, value stream mapping, process capability and throughput analysis, SixSigma, 5S and Kaizen
Drive a “Zero Defect” mentality within the supply base with effective training
Communicate engineering and manufacturing specifications to Sierra and supplier technical teams.
Actively manage suppliers to ensure key Sierra processes (SCAR, New Process Change, Supplier Approval and Part Approval) are conducted for each new supplier and each new
Support the new-, probationary- and rejected-supplier transition Assist in the selection and qualification of new suppliers.
Travel to supplier locations to resolve quality problems, including international travel as required.
Assure compliance to all applicable legal requirements pertaining to environmental aspects and impacts.
Help achieve performance goals established in the environmental measurement Offer suggestions that can lead to improved environmental performance.
Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformances relating to product, process and/or quality
Identify and record any problems relating to the product process and quality
Initiate, recommend and/or provide solutions through designated
Verify the implementation of
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial
A minimum of 4 years of experience in Supplier Quality Management with mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic and/or hydraulic components and
Knowledge of ISO/TS-16949 QMS and CQE from ASQC is
Previous experience in the marine industry OEM or aftermarket is strongly preferred. Other industries such as automotive or industrial OEM or aftermarket components will be
Previous experience working with component suppliers in China and Taiwan preferred.
A track record showing clear evidence of delivering improved supplier
Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, a valid passport and the ability to travel internationally.
