Plans and designs and reviews major civil engineering projects such as roads, bridges, irrigation systems, and drainage systems by performing the following duties. Works independently and can manage difficult engineering and design problems. Provides assistance and checks work of civil engineers and engineers in training. Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to review and design various projects. Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data. Provides technical review and ensures compliance of subdivision and site plan proposals within City engineering and stormwater standards for the Technical Review Committee. Prepares, reviews, updates, and makes recommendations for engineering standards. Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project. Coordinates inspection of construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards. Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Supervises Roadway Inspectors, sets schedules and priorities, performs performance appraisals, conducts/initiates disciplinary actions, and counsels staff as necessary regarding performance expectations, policies and procedures. Oversees the Department’s participation in the Plat Review process. Assists in and supervises staff in the Dedication Package Approval Process. Prepares required reports. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires: Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) in Civil Engineering or related field and eight years of related-experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in site development, infrastructure construction and/or hydrology/stormwater preferred. Valid state issue driver's license. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
