The Center for Surgical Health Assessment, Research & Policy (SHARP) in the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is recruiting an Associate Director. SHARP was launched in April 2018 under the leadership of founding Director Dr. Heena Santry, a nationally recognized surgical health services researcher, to complement the Department’s already thriving research portfolio in the basic, translational, and clinical sciences. SHARP’s mission to empower surgeon scientists to determine the biopsychosocial underpinnings of surgical disease, measure surgical outcomes and test innovative approaches to improving surgical care in central Ohio and beyond, through robust health services research methods.
Intended to be the intellectual home for funded surgical health services researchers, SHARP is a vibrant think tank for surgeon-scientists and other researchers across relevant disciplines (e.g., epidemiology, public health, palliative care, patient preferences) whose research aims to improve the quality, equity, and cost-effectiveness of surgical care delivery. SHARP project coordination, research management, and analytic staff provide necessary day-to-day research and grant support. SHARP’s format and structure foster collaboration with researchers and research units across campus for necessary expertise in areas such as geographic information systems, survey research, qualitative research, social network analysis, among others.
As part of SHARP’s strategic plan we are pleased to have an opportunity for a funded surgical health services researcher join the team to continue to foster a rapid pace of grantsmanship and research growth. The position will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to continue to develop an individual research portfolio while working with the Director on continued strategic growth of the center, research dissemination and advocacy to loco-regional and national policymakers, mentorship and sponsorship of junior faculty members on the research funding pathway, and successful application for a health services research training grant-based within SHARP.
