About UCSF Fresno
The University Centers of Excellence is the faculty (private) practice side of Central California Faculty Medical Group. Each physician holds a faculty appointment from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) at UCSF Fresno. In 1975, the Fresno Medical Education Program was established as a clinical branch of UCSF. With support from the California Legislature and the Veterans Administration, the program was created to address the severe shortage of physicians practicing in the Central Valley. Each year, UCSF Fresno trains approximately 245 dedicated medical residents in eight specialties and trains an additional 40 fellows in 12 sub-specialties. Currently, approximately 250 of the best and brightest medical students receive training at UCSF Fresno throughout the year. The University Centers of Excellence faculty (private) practice offices were developed to allow the community to have unprecedented access to UCSF faculty physicians. Patients are now able to receive the same world-class care they expect to receive in larger metropolitan cities without having to travel outside of Fresno. Not only do the residents of the Central Valley gain access to UCSF faculty physicians, ...they gain the advantage of having a robust group of medical professionals with exceptional training working together to look after their care. We are truly fortunate to be able to offer UCSF faculty physicians to the residents of the Central Valley.Over the years, the University Centers of Excellence has continued to grow to meet the needs of the community. We now offer patient-centered care at over 20 offices throughout Fresno with faculty physicians practicing in over 50 different specialties, making the Central Valley a stronger community with excellent medical options.Growing Central Valley doctors is at the heart of UCSF Fresno. Since its inception, the program has graduated more than 2,000 resident physicians. With approximately 40% of residents and 60% of fellows choosing to remain in the Central Valley upon completion of their programs, the University Centers of Excellence continually add some of the most talented physicians to our group.
