Faculty Position - Clinical Microbiologist, Department of Pathology
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, is one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Children from all 50 states and from around the world have come through the doors of St. Jude for treatment. The research conducted at St. Jude is shared freely with the global medical community. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment that is not covered by insurance. No child is denied treatment because of a family's inability to pay.
The Department of Pathology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking a Clinical Microbiologist at the Assistant Member level. The Clinical Microbiology Laboratories at St. Jude consist of a well-established, full-service group of laboratories, providing state-of-the-art care for our immunocompromised pediatric population. St. Jude provides a rich, academic and collaborative environment, with a unique set of diagnostic challenges. The Microbiology section has a long history of innovative work in developing new diagnostic methods, contributing the St. Jude mission, by using genotypic and phenotypic techniques spanning bacteriology, mycology and virology for the diagnosis and characterization of infectious pathogens. The successful candidate will have an M.D. or Ph.D. and the appropriate training and certification with the American Board of Pathology or the American Board of Medical Microbiology. The candidate will have a record of scholarly achievements commensurate with the position and be prepared to support the clinical service. St. Jude Pathology has always been a leader in innovative diagnostic techniques and high-quality laboratory medicine. The Department of Pathology is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and achieved CAP ISO 15189 accreditation in 2016 and is the first children’s hospital in North America to achieve this status.
