This position will serve as Drainage Engineering section head in the Public Works Department.
JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
This classification is located in the Drainage Engineering Division of the Public Works Department with the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of a Civil Engineer V or other division head. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise an engineering work section. The employee may serve as the primary City contact regarding the assigned engineering discipline or function. Job duties require the use of previously acquired administrative and technical knowledge and skills. Essential job functions include: developing sectional goals and objectives; planning, organizing, and reviewing all projects assigned to subordinate staff; participating in and overseeing the development of plans and specifications for public-works engineering projects; and ensuring that engineering projects comply with plans and specifications. The employee provides technical expertise to subordinate staff, assigning projects or functions and improving methods and procedures. The employee has frequent contact with City officials and staff, engineering consultants, architects, contractors, developers, and the public to exchange technical information on public-works engineering matters. Work is performed primarily independently, with work products reviewed periodically through staff reports, conferences, and visual observations by the Division/Department head for overall effectiveness and adherence to policies, directives, and instructions.
Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City shall receive five (5) points added to the passing score on an initial selection process. Qualified applicants must upload a copy of their DD Form 214 or NGB Form 22 indicating discharge type/character of service at the time of application.
Knowledge of and skill in applying administrative and managerial concepts and principles.
Knowledge of and skill in interpreting or explaining the rules, laws, and regulations governing the field of civil engineering.
Skill in supervising the planning, development, and construction of public-works engineering projects.
Skill in responding to complex, technical engineering questions and problems.
Skill in supervising the work of professional, technical, and clerical staff.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in ensuring that engineering projects and plans comply with all applicable guidelines and regulations.
Ability to develop long-range plans and evaluate work accomplishments.
Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Possession of a Professional Engineer's License (Oklahoma).
Possession of a valid driver license (Operator).
NOTE: Professional Engineer's License must be issued by the State of Oklahoma or a state having reciprocity with the State of Oklahoma.
Five (5) years' civil drainage engineering experience.
Five (5) years' supervisory experience.
Additional Salary Information: NOTE: The normal starting salary for this position is $80,388.00/annually. A higher salary may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy.
