The Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and Documentation Engineer will have the primarily responsibility of providing assurance that the software portion of a project fulfills commitments for the software product:
As specified in the customer and end user’s technical specifications and contract documents;
In compliance with project-specific, software related plans;
Consistent with Knorr’s internal process requirements.
The SQA Engineer must be familiar with embedded control system environments typical in Knorr hardware systems.
A secondary responsibility is to provide support for format and correctness of software design documents required for submittal to the customer:
The software product may be produced by Knorr Brake for brake systems, Merak NA for HVAC system, or IFE NA for door systems.
Meet IEEE or EN content requirements
Are correctly formatted for maximum readability
Consistent with Knorr’s existing document templates
Duties
1.
Review customer and end user specifications and support proposal development.
2.
Prepare, maintain, and implement Software Quality Assurance and Software Configuration Management Plans, based on standard templates but tailored for each project.
3.
Prepare, maintain, and implement Software Verification and Validation Plans for each project.
4.
Audit software development and design processes, compliance with software plans, and software testing
5.
Prepare and/or review software design documentation submitted to customers.
6.
Oversee specified software verification and validation tasks.
7.
Prepare or approve Software Verification and Validation Test Procedures and Reports.
8.
In coordination with RMSH Engineers, monitor software quality and defects.
Engineering Principles: Broad experience and good theoretical knowledge of engineering principles:
Understanding of electro-mechanical systems
Understanding principles for developing robust, high integrity software applications
Reliability, maintainability, safety and human factors
General electrical / electronics principles
Software Knowledge: Should understand software development methodology as it pertains to the capabilities listed below of the Knorr electronic systems:
Software Testing Documentation to IEEE software standards or equivalent
Proficient in applying software standards, especially IEEE, EN or IEC equivalent
Must understand and practice good organization and configuration management skills
Must understand the CMMI based software development process
Work within IEEE documentation constraints
Computer Literacy;
Proficient with MS Office applications
Proficient with Adobe Acrobat and MS Outlook
Software development tools desirable
Leadership and Teamwork:
Must be able to define clearly requirements and expectations to others (Electronic Engineers, Program Manager, Customer, End User, Purchasing, etc.)
Must be able to work well in a team environment both internally and with customers.
Strong problem solving abilities
Must have a strong desire to succeed with high expectations, both of themselves and others
Industry Experience (preferred):
Knowledge and practical understanding of electro-mechanical systems in passenger rail vehicles or similar equipment and principles, as applied to microprocessor controlled equipment
Experience with embedded control of rail vehicle equipment desirable
Experience with integrated electro-mechanical systems desirable
Demonstrated performance within a project team environment
Professional Writing: Must be able to write clear, concise specifications, must be able to develop standard template documentation style to conform to IEEE standards or equivalent.
Time Management:
Manage multiple and conflicting priorities.
Communication Skills:
Must have effective communications and presentations skills
