Oversees designated administrative and regulatory functions related to the animal care and use program. Duties include supervising IACUC Office support staff, leading IACUC related operational and quality improvement initiatives, communicating with external regulatory agencies, reviewing animal use protocols, providing regular reports to the IACUC Chair and the Institutional Official, providing education and training to research staff and Committee Members related to animal research issues, requirements, and compliance, and performing other duties as assigned to support the mandated functions of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Office of Research Administration.
Manages the support function of the animal care and use program (IACUC Office and related staff) and performs continuous operational assessment and quality improvement on IACUC related processes and workflows
Oversees the investigation of and responds to and troubleshoots potential noncompliance issues related to animal welfare
Assists with the evaluation of audit findings and implementation of appropriate corrective actions and prepares reports for review by the IO of noncompliance issues to external or internal oversight bodies when warranted
Develops, maintains, implements and revises Institutional IACUC policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in promotion of compliance and risk mitigation
Conducts grant congruency reviews to ensure animal use protocols are consistent with the proposed scope of work outlined in grant applications; Provides necessary documentation and approval to ORA for the establishment of awards
Serves on and is a voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
Facilitates the onboarding of new IACUC Members and provides education on their Committee role and responsibilities
Provides guidance to the Institution’s research community with regard to applicable federal regulations, state laws, and Jefferson policies
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Biological Science, or other related discipline required; Master’s degree preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:
CPIA Certification and/or AALAS Certification (ALAT, LAT, LATG) preferred
Four years of experience in the field of animal research preferred
Previous managerial experience, proficiency with computer database management, and familiarity with scientific terminology
