The principal responsibility of the position is leadership and guidance of the company’s surveying/geomatics services. The position serves as the discipline leader and is responsible for the overall operations of the survey/geomatics group. Service areas include topographic and boundary surveying, hydrographic surveying, construction layout, as-built surveying, highway, infrastructure and right of way (ROW) surveying, flood plain determinations, 3D laser scanning, UAV photogrammetry and GIS analysis, mapping, database development and support. As Sebago Technics is a multi-discipline firm, position is responsible for coordinating and supporting survey services to internal disciplines and external clients. The position is also responsible for personnel management, scheduling and resource allocation, opportunity development, client satisfaction, quality assurance, and project coordination. The position requires the ability to understand the operation and needs of a technical service area with strong management (personnel, project, client, budgets, etc.) and communication skills.
Successful candidate will possess a broad skill set with professional services or related experience, be well organized with a strong attention to detail, be team oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills, be an effective time manager with the ability to prioritize and handle competing priorities. Position also requires the ability to promote and market the company’s survey and geospatial services to clients, groups and peer organizations. Management, supervisory and/or business development experience in a professional services or related organization strongly preferred.
Position reports to the President/CEO.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Survey/Geomatics Services and Delivery
Oversee the provision of a variety of survey/geomatics/geospatial services to a board array of client markets including construction, real estate, civil engineering, businesses, property owners and other consulting firms.
Maintain working knowledge of the status of projects, permitting processes and product delivery needs
Effective, daily communication with staff and clients (internal and external)
Work with internal professional staff and/or external clients to problem solve situations
Remain current on survey and industry best practices and technologies
Development/review of estimates for survey/geomatics services
Preparation of proposals, project submissions and applications, including routine letters and forms
Facilitate communication and coordination by and between survey group and internal project managers
Foster a respectful, professional environment based upon collaboration, competency and communication
Encourage and monitor staff performance, professional growth, teamwork and productivity
Delegate project assignments and tasks to appropriately qualified staff
Coach employees on a variety of technical, efficiency and communication skills
Mentor appropriate staff
Be a conduit for information between staff members and the organization
Participate in the recruitment, hiring and evaluation of personnel
Monitor training and professional development needs of Survey/Geomatics personnel
Coordinate/conduct training sessions on related practices, techniques and technologies
Assist and support company-wide business development and marketing efforts
Promote the use, ‘cross sell’ and ‘upsell’ of Survey/Geomatics services
Identify progressive survey/geospatial service opportunities, practices and technologies
Advocate for Survey/Geomatics needs internally
Identify and maintain new project/client prospect information
In conjunction with Marketing Coordinator develop and maintain marketing materials
Arrange new client meetings and information
Assist staff in preparation/review of submittals for proposals and/or client information needs
Attend trade shows or other appropriate service promotion opportunities
Responsible for overall quality and accuracy of Survey/Geomatics services
Review plan and documents for quality, accuracy and adherence to company standards
Observe field and office practices to insure compliance with industry requirements
Assess liability and risk on projects before services are performed and as issues may arise
Act as Safety Officer for field services and activities
Vehicle/Equipment procurement and maintenance
Special projects and other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Survey Technology, GIS, or Geospatial Data, preferred. Associates degree or equivalent experience may be considered.
8-10+ years management, supervisory or support experience in the delivery of survey/GIS services.
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or Certified GIS/Geospatial Professional or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment, preferred.
Established relationships and contacts in land development in Maine and/or Northern New England and demonstrated business development capability are a plus.
Demonstrated understanding of ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Access, Excel, and Word.
