Director, Division of Community Health Sciences School of Public Health University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)
The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks applications for the position of Director of the Division of Community Health Sciences (CHS) in the School of Public Health (SPH). An engaged leader is sought to enhance ongoing research, teaching, practice, and service activities and to provide vision for continued growth in the division. The successful candidate will have an established national reputation, strong scientific background in a field relevant to CHS, proven leadership skills, considerable teaching and curricular development experience, and qualifications for a rank of Associate Professor or Professor. An active research program, including a successful record of extramural funding, is required. Strong communication and management skills, experience in or commitment to furthering scholarship in public health practice and research, evidence of successful mentoring, and an entrepreneurial attitude are assets.
The Division Director is the academic officer directly responsible for:
Providing leadership and vision to the department, advancing the goals of the land-grant mission in research, teaching, extension, outreach and international activities and promoting equality and diversity.
Developing and communicating departmental policy guidelines in consultation with the faculty.
Supporting the department's educational mission and promote student professional development.
Supervising and evaluating faculty and staff in the department.
Developing and implementing a strong mentoring program for faculty and staff.
Administering budgetary and financial matters within the department.
Providing leadership with college support for development and fundraising.
Representing the department at the college and campus levels.
Facilitating collaboration with the stakeholders of the CHS department including leaders in industry, government, other universities, public groups, and professional societies.
In collaboration with SPH Director of Marketing and Communications, develop a proactive recruitment and marketing campaign for the department that aligns with college efforts.
Serving as a member of the CHS leadership team; engage in meaningful discussions with the dean and associate deans concerning departmental priorities, college level funding initiatives and inter or transdisciplinary efforts intended to advance the missions of the department, college and university.

The Division of Community Health Sciences is committed to developing a skilled public health workforce and a new generation of community and population health scientists. Our faculty and students focuses on advancing knowledge and change along a continuum of factors that affect human health, at the individual, community, and system levels. We utilize rigorous quantitative and qualitative methods in collaboration with traditional and nontraditional research partners as well as community stakeholders. Our applied focus involves translational research and leads to broad-based dissemination of innovative public health interventions. We also develop theories of health behavior and systems change.
