WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transportation Management Center Project Director in Hauppauge, NY.
 
Responsible for the management of all daily operation of the INFORM operations center in Hauppauge, NY. This work will be performed under minimal supervision and direction of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Project Manager. This position requires the oversite, training and management of approximately 25-30 employees, including operators, H.E.L.P. dispatchers and inspectors. This position also coordinates activities on all shifts, and is the primary interface with NYSDOT and maintenance contractors for all operational outages and failures.
 
Specific duties include:
  • Keeping the NYSDOT Project Manager abreast, daily, of all matters affecting the operations of the INFORM operations center
  • Being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for emergency and/or operational problems
  • Attending meetings with the NYSDOT Project Manager for purposes of relaying information, must be capable of working closely with the public, law enforcement, and State officials
  • Creating and distributing weekly, and monthly reports as needed
  • Attending to special requests by the NYSDOT Project Manager for gathering data and/or generating reports
  • Ensuring all training materials are maintained and accessible to the operators
  • Coordinating the daily schedules of the operators and is ultimately responsible for ensuring coverage is complete on every shift
  • Ensuring all personnel are kept abreast of special events affecting the INFORM system, e.g., special signing or roadwork
  • Monitoring and auditing operator functions for accuracy and professionalism
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of all traffic signal and system maintenance files, coordinates all request and/or repairs of program “bugs” with the appropriate personnel
 
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
  • Reports directly to the NYSDOT Project Manager and, in general, is the single point of contact representing the Consultant team at the TMC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 7 years’ experience managing a TMC that operates a minimum of 50 instrumented lane miles, supervising a minimum of 15 employees.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
 
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills, excellent organization skills;
  • Computer/Software including: MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases, and
  • Excellent communication skills, excellent organization skills;
  • Training in personnel management, public relations, or similar skills;
  • Must be able to respond to problem situations 24 hours a day.
