Duke University is accepting applications for a one-year comprehensive lung transplant fellowship starting July 2021. The fellowship is based at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, a large volume lung transplant center, performing over 100 lung transplants annually.
The program emphasizes achievement of proficiency in management of lung transplant patients through hands on practice and continuity of care. The fellows learn the fundamentals of evaluation of transplant candidates, the listing process and post transplant care of immunosuppressed patients including ECMO and early post op management.
Our program is ideally suited for training candidates in multidisciplinary risk management of complicated patients. In addition, there can be opportunities to tailor the fellowship to get more experience in advanced lung disease like pulmonary vascular disease, ILD and CF.
The program offers a variety of research opportunities depending on the length of the training and career choice. Individuals who complete the training will meet ISHLT criteria for medical directorship of a lung transplant program.
Applicants must complete training in Pulmonary and Critical Care by June 2021. Please apply via email and include: CV (with no unexplained gaps) One-page personal statement, ECFMG certificate (if applicable) and two references.
Duke is a high-volume lung transplant program and the largest lung transplant program in the Southeast. More than 1,800 lung transplants have been performed at Duke since 1992. Our lung transplant surgeons performed 140 lung transplants in the last year.
The Duke Lung Transplant Program offers a one year fellowship in advanced lung disease and transplant. Applicants have completed a pulmonary and critical care fellowship training program and seek additional training in transplantation. The transplant fellowship includes inpatient and outpatient evaluation and management of transplant candidates and recipients. At the completion of the fellowship, the trainee will meet the requirements of UNOS for a pulmonary transplant medical director. Clinical research projects can be incorporated into the fellowship year if desired
