Position Overview:
The City of Springfield is looking for a team-oriented, energetic civil engineer with great communication skills to join our Engineering Division’s Capital Projects team. Work includes managing design and construction projects; conducting engineering studies and preparing cost estimates; preparing engineering plans, specifications and contract documents for projects; inspecting projects and answering questions related to plans and specifications; working together as a team to accomplish a common goal; and related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Capital Projects Managing Civil Engineer.

Summary of Essential Duties:

• Serves as project engineer on City public works projects; provides periodic inspections of projects to aid the Construction Inspector in answering questions regarding project plans and specifications.
• Conducts engineering studies and prepares cost estimates; prepares engineering plans, specifications and contract documents necessary for the construction of public works projects such as stormwater and wastewater sewer, transportation/traffic, storm drainage improvements, and pavement preservation.
• Works with field survey staff in obtaining topographic data needed to prepare engineering plans, and record maps for obtaining easements and rights of way for projects.
• Interprets environmental and engineering regulations.
• Reviews other capital project plans.
• Maintains files and records pertaining to engineering projects and activities.
• Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of Civil Engineering.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
