The UAB Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine in conjunction with the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative is seeking a rehabilitation scientist to lead the development of a pediatric focused rehabilitation research program. Candidates from a variety of training backgrounds with a PhD in a scientific field relevant to rehabilitation and/or exercise medicine will be considered. The candidate will be expected to publish papers and submit applications for NIH career development and/or R-level funding and appropriate foundation awards with strong mentorship from UAB faculty. This appointment will be within the UAB Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, with the majority of effort going towards research.
The UAB Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine and Children’s of Alabama provide clinical and rehabilitation services on the campus of Lakeshore Foundation, a world class U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training facility promoting physical activity through fitness, aquatics, recreation, and athletics. Lakeshore Foundation serves as the home of the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative whose mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals with physical disabilities through comprehensive rehabilitation and sports science research. This research position will provide the candidate the unique environment of an academic medical center operating collaboratively with a world-class community-based sports, fitness, and recreation facility. Currently the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative has 25 ongoing projects including the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Interactive Exercise Technologies and Exercise Physiology for People with Disabilities and the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability.
The UAB Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine consists of three full time clinical faculty and one adjunct faculty member who provide inpatient consultation, comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services, and serve in multidisciplinary outpatient clinics including Spina Bifida Clinic, Cerebral Palsy Clinic, Concussion Clinic, Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic, Brachial Plexus Clinic, Neuro-Oncology Clinic, Spasticity Clinic, and Movement Disorder Clinic, among others. Clinical research opportunities for this position will be available in the inpatient, outpatient, and community based setting, or a combination thereof.
