Cleveland Clinic is seeking a MD, JD, PhD or equivalent terminal degree in an area of study related to bioethics to lead the health system’s Center for Bioethics. An ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leadership in a healthcare setting, comprehensive ethics consultation experience, demonstrated commitment to ethics education, experience advancing research and scholarly activity in the field of bioethics, interdisciplinary collaboration and effective oral and written communication skills.
The mission of the Cleveland Clinic is to provide better care of the sick, investigation into their problems, and further education of those who serve. In pursuit of this mission, the Center for Bioethics at Cleveland Clinic consults to help resolve ethical conflicts, issues or questions involving patient care; researches patient-centered approaches to bioethics that enhance clinical practices, informed consent and communication with patients and families; and educates and provides development to bioethics professionals and caregivers at large.
As part of the Clinical Transformation leadership team, the Center Director provides oversight and direction of the program while working collaboratively with Safety and Quality, Patient Experience and Continuous Improvement to care for our patients, caregivers, organization and community. The Center Director will also be considered for the F.J. O’Neill Endowed Chair.
Responsibilities of the Center Director, Bioethics include but are not limited to:
Develop and oversee Cleveland Clinic’s health system bioethics program.
Supervise, develop and lead a team of bioethics faculty and fellows.
Research and innovate best ethical practices in healthcare.
Foster a strong, collaborative team engaging clinical and non-clinical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Enhance and sustain vibrant ethics programming throughout the Cleveland Clinic.
Provide robust ethics education to bioethics fellows, clinical trainees, medical students, Cleveland Clinic caregivers and the broader community.
