Contribute your expertise in histological and molecular techniques to evaluate tissue samples, quantifying and assessing staining. Your talents will help facilitate rapid progress toward the development of gene therapy in this scientific cutting-edge arena. You will support the preclinical team across different programs and assist the Sr. Histotechnologist in preparation of tissue specimens for research experiments, execution of staining procedures to ensure the utmost quality, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and the. You will. This is an approximate 90% lab-based position in a BSL II material laboratory.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation and analysis.
Based on experience, may perform all phases of tissue preparation including tissue fixation, fresh or in-process specimens (paraffin and frozen), embedding procedures, microtome and cryostat sectioning and mounting of tissues.
Able to train and use of Benchling to register samples that comes into the lab.
Maintain inventory of all tissues processed including electronic file generation (Benchling) to record number of blocks and slides prepared for each study.
Prepare slides for H&E (Hematoxylin & Eosin) staining, Special Stains and immunohistochemistry/ immunofluorescent stains for microscopic and image analysis.
Perform coverslipping of stained slides manually or automated.
Ensure proper disposal of chemicals used for histology. Maintain compliance with internal and external regulations for usage of histology chemicals, demonstrating knowledge of quality and safety.
Assist in filing, stocking, and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies for work area.
Operate and maintain specialized histology equipment and instrumentation according to manufacturer recommendations and procedures.
Perform a variety of routine tasks to support the preclinical team.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Sr. Histotechnologist.
Overall Responsibilities:
70%- hands-on in tissue processing. Staining and image acquisition
20%-electronic documentation, review, and analysis. Maintain equipment and records.
10%-prepare laboratory reagents and verify inventory.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bachelors a/o associate degree in Biology or an equivalent science, and/or appropriate histologic training program.
0-3 years of experience as a Certified Histology Technician/Histotechnologist HT or HTL(ASCPcm) or acquired within the first year of employment.
Knowledge of histology laboratory functions, practices, and procedures.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail, with ability to follow detailed work instructions.
Must be a self-motivated, flexible, and driven professional who can effectively perform in a rapidly changing, small company environment.
Must be able to work independently but is also a team player with strong collaborative skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Experience in a research environment a plus
(H&E) and Special Stains experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to move 25 lbs. required.
Must be able to perform repetitive motion activities for long periods of time.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
