JOB SUMMARY Experienced and licensed Structural Engineer to perform structural engineering design, create plans, and oversee the construction of structures, including but not limited to new and existing buildings, and bridges. Oversee, supervise, manage, and mentor support staff engineers, engineers-in-training (EIT), and drafters. MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as project manager performing the following functions: Structural engineering design. Perform structural engineering calculations compliant with applicable codes and standards of practice. - Provide engineering calculations that shall be organized, legible, and thorough as to allow efficient review of submittals from supervisors, pertaining building officials, and any other applicable party.
- Gain proficiency in appropriate and applicable design software.
Engage in communications and collaboration with the client, architect, and/or designer to ensure goals and scope(s) of work are completed. Manage and collaborate with support staff to efficiently complete projects and meet expected budgets and timeline. Communicate with Y2 management regarding project status. Draft and/or create construction documents for construction and applicable jurisdictional permits. Documents shall be concurrent with Y2 standards, feasibly constructed, and meet the requirements of the pertaining jurisdiction(s) at a minimum. - Gain proficiency in appropriate and applicable drafting/modeling software utilized by Y2.
- Engage in education or standard implementation that makes documentation more efficient and/or clear.
- Continually create new engineering standards and add to Y2’s resources to utilize for future projects and documentation.
Review drawings and calculations. - Review calculations and construction documents created by support staff engineers or EIT’s to ensure correct engineering analysis has been performed and Y2 standards and quality expectations are met.
- Perform shop drawing review ensuring that all requirements set forth by provided engineered construction documents and specifications have been met.
Actively engage in problem-solving and pursue new means and methods for solving such problems. - Perform the problem-solving cycle per the following: State the problem, redefine the problem to eliminate bias, identify constraints and set general objectives, identify alternative solutions, analyze alternatives, and select the most viable alternative.
Write, collaborate on, and review reports, documents, and proposals. - Write investigative reports.
- Write field reports for inspections.
- Review reports completed by support staff and EIT’s.
- Seek out new potential projects and clients and collaborate on writing proposals to secure these projects.
Work with Y2 team members and project team members; serve as interface with clients and interface between team members and Y2 management. - Maintain a positive working relationship with team members.
- Communicate with co-workers in a professional and respectful manner.
- Collaborate with Y2 management to prioritize projects, workloads, and needs.
- Work with clients to ensure projects are meeting their goals and needs; communicate necessary adjustments to management, teams, and owners.
