Responsibilities:
Develops and coordinates the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility. Implements the program by formulating, establishing and evaluating policies and procedures relating to patient care infection control measures throughout the facility.
Performs an annual assessment and develops action plans from the prior year activities.
Directs and assists in preparation of reports and statistical data for the infection control committee, medical staff committees, medical executive committee and the facility’s administration and other committees as needed, Chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
Develops and enforces effectual policies and procedures for the department and hospital that ensures compliance with JC, OSHA, CDC, CMS and other country, state and federal regulatory agencies.
Interacts with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and occupational health and other professional/non-professional staff members to provide resource information, resolve infection control problems and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.
Establishes implements and administer departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
Ensures that departmental goals are compatible with, and enhance the hospital and organization’s mission, values and strategic plan.
Provides information to hospital committees and department managers to formulate changes in the policies, procedures and/or processes, which could reduce the spread of infection.
Makes recommendations regarding construction, renovation, environmental rounds, and assures compliance with national and/or professional standards.
Consult with managers in clinical and non-clinical departments.
Develops and implements approved epidemiologic protocols for investigating and controlling hospital epidemics and other hospital-acquired infections, and is responsive to unanticipated exposures and outbreaks.
Determines the need for mandatory isolation of patients, temporary suspension of admissions to units, and temporary reassignment or furlough of personnel to prevent transmission of infection to patients in accordance with established hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Communicates confidential information to authorized individuals and/or agencies.
Triages infection control questions and issues where policies do not exist.
Responsible for the recruitment, retention and development of the departmental staff, to include but not limited to: interviewing and hiring, performance evaluations, on-going training and discipline.
Maintains a competent and motivated staff through proper selection, training and evaluation
What Qualifications You Will Need
Current registration as RN in the state of Louisiana (if Nurse) or Compact license preferred.
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology required. CPR required.
Bachelor's degree in nursing or health related science field required, Master’s degree in health related field preferred.
Three to five years’ experience in a hospital Infection Control program or Public Health program, department supervisory experience preferred.
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. required.
