Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. IOM/Research Specialist.
In this role, the successful candidate will perform intra-operative monitoring and/or assist in the performance of electrodiagnostic tests, as directed by the Director of Clinical Neurophysiology.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepares patient for testing: Gathers and sets up equipment and supplies according to established departmental procedures.Calibrates equipment prior to procedure, ensuring its proper functioning for procedure.Interacts with patients by indentifying self to patient and verifies identity of patient by checking patient ID bracelet.Preps patient using proper departmental criteria and technique to ensure best quality result.
Under the direction of the physician, administers appropriate electrodiagnostic testing: For electrodiagnostic testing, attaches electrodes according to predetermined specifications.Instructs patients on how to relax and cooperate during testing.Generates electrical impulse to stimulate motor response.Completes procedure and assures that all measures have been obtained; removes electrodes from patient and assists patient, as needed.Generates a preliminary measurement report for review by the attending physician.
Performs intra-operative monitoring during surgical procedures and prepare relevant data: Monitors patient during non-critical portions of surgery, noting progress of surgery, room and patient body temperature, blood pressure, anesthetic agents and other factors as instructed by physician.Backs up data collected during surgical procedure.
Maintains equipment in proper functioning order and assures adequate supplies for performance of tests/monitoring.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served: Demonstrates knowledge when performing the duties and responsibilities outlined herein of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served. (i.e. neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric).Effectively asses data reflective of the patients status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age specific needs.
Behavioral Standards: Interacts with the patients/family and physicians utilizing techniques appropriate to situation in a courteous, professional manner.Cooperates and communicates with visitors and hospital staff in a positive and professional manner.Maintains confidentiality of all patient, hospital, and physician information.Demonstrates ability to work well with all members of health care team.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Graduate required.
One year related experience required. Ability to operate EP & EMG equipment.
Good communication skills required.
Requires physical and manual dexterity needed to lift and support patients and to calibrate equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science Degree.
Two-three years previous experience in clinical neurophysiology laboratory preferred.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
