The UHS Corporate Insurance Department is hiring a Senior Claims Analyst to manage high severity professional and general liability claims by investigating, analyzing, evaluating exposures and bringing the cases to a timely and reasonable resolution by maintaining compliance with the UHS claims philosophy and guidelines. Key Responsibilities include: - Gather, investigate and analyze information and documents from Risk Managers regarding general liability, and professional liability/medical malpractice claims
- Maintain an average diary of 150-175 mid-range exposure claims. Monitor diary on 30, 60, 90 day schedule and document ongoing liability and damage evaluation in claims system
- Evaluate primary and excess insurance coverage. Report exposures in excess carrier promptly and according to excess carrier requirements. Provide ongoing updates and communication regarding claims to excess carriers
- Communicate regularly with defense counsel to plan and execute defense strategy along with ongoing communication regarding exposure analysis
- Negotiate settlements directly with patients, plaintiff attorneys and or directs defense counsel until the case is settled. Find alternative ways to reach cost effective end results in which all parties benefit. Recommends solutions to claims
- Monitor and controls defense expense. Approves defense invoices in billing system. Follows UHS cost control and billing guidelines
- Attend mediations and trials. Provide prompt updates to supervisor and senior management
- Prepare claim summary reports according to UHS Claims guidelines for claims reserved in excess of $1M, claims with scheduled mediations/trials, claims requiring settlement authority and claims that have been settled.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 5 - 8 years' experience. - Strong insurance knowledge, including ability to interpret policy and basic foundation of litigation
- Superior computer skills and oral/written communication skills are necessary
- Must be organized, able to work with all levels of people and have an understanding of the end result
- 10% travel required
