Under minimal supervision, performs cell culture and harvest, microscope monitor analysis of chromosomes for the detection of abnormalities; prepare karyotypes; operate and maintain laboratory equipment needed to perform daily duties; increase productivity and maintain proficiency in the wet lab and analysis sections; proficient in FISH microscopic analysis including FFPE. With minimal supervision, demonstrates proficiency in sample preparation, hybridization, washing, imaging, and microscopic analysis of interphase nuclei and metaphase cells. Knowledge of hematological diseases and recognition of specific abnormalities; adhere to laboratory policies for safety, conduct, and performance Under minimal supervision, coordinates, oversees, and performs routine and specialized activities related to the operation of the cytogenetics laboratory. Develops protocols, coordinates work flow and oversees quality control in specialized areas of the laboratory.

The Hayward Genetics Center at Tulane University Health Sciences Center is an interdepartmental multidisciplinary program providing state-of-the-art service, education, and research in the full spectrum of diagnosis, counseling and management of genetic disorders.
The faculty of the Hayward Genetics Center includes clinical and basic scientists who specialize in the various areas of human genetics. The faculty includes geneticists who are board certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in all subdisciplines of Medical Genetics (Clinical Genetics, Clinical Biochemical Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics, Clinical Molecular Genetics and Ph.D. Medical Genetics).
Additional faculty members include research and basic scientists with expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology as well as physicians who are board-certified in various other medical specialties including Maternal/Fetal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Neurology, and Internal Medicine.
The Hayward Genetics Center is accredited as a training program by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) and is also accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to provide postdoctoral tra...ining (years four and five) in M.D. clinical genetics.
The Hayward Genetics Center at Tulane Medical Center is the Gulf South region’s only comprehensive clinical genetics center, offering state-of-the-art genetic diagnosis, counseling, and therapy for prenatal, pediatric and adult inherited conditions. The center offers clinical diagnostic genetics laboratories in cytogenetics, molecular and biochemical genetics, four Board Certified geneticists, two Board Certified genetic counselors, and two full-time licensed metabolic nutritionists. The Hayward Genetics Labs offer the only full-service biochemical, cytogenetic and molecular labs in Louisiana.
