Overview: Directs the activities of the production/paper making department to maximize daily production tonnage output at the lowest possible cost assuring that all efforts are made at all times to sustain continuity of operations with minimum down time.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Remains continually aware of order status in an effort to project paper machine run requirements
Responsible for developing improved methods for capital investments, cost reductions and equipment refurbishment
Develop, plan, and administer operational activities and functions of the paper machine
Monitor condition of paper machine wire and clothing so far as possible to schedule wire change in a timely manner based on order demand
Remain continually aware of paper machine maintenance requirements and work closely with engineering and maintenance manager(s) to assure continuity of operations with minimum down-time
Remain continually aware of waste acquisition status and coordinate planning and production activities with the recycle material manager
Enforce strict safety standards and practices. Be aware of existing safety hazards and make every feasible attempt to correct these hazards
Maintain overall responsibility for production training plans, programs, and procedures. Assist in the training of production employees and identify those employees in need of further training
Remain aware of employee relations in all communication with employees and maintain a positive employee relation climate
Be a strong safety leader who does not compromise safety over production.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position supervises Non-exempt, Exempt and managerial positions within the Production Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
