Key Responsibility Overview:
• Provides leadership for all academic programs;
• Works with the College faculty to facilitate appropriate program development, implementation, evaluation and assessment;
• Ensures systematic review of programs to ensure quality and current course content, best practice and achievement of regulatory standards;
• Provides leadership in matters of academic policy and administration and regularly advises the President on these matters;
• Coordinates with the President and program directors and provides hiring, support, development and evaluation of faculty, staff, and administrators of instructional programs and services;
• Coordinates with the program directors and approves the assigning of courses and non-instructional assignments to full and part-time faculty;
• Serves on the college administrative team;
• Performs other duties as assigned by the president;
Personnel Duties
• Recommends staffing patterns including faculty and other staff needed for the functioning of the college. This includes specifying qualifications for all positions;
• Aids personnel office in recruiting all full-time and part-time faculty by reviewing credentials, interviewing, and recommending those best qualified;
• Evaluates members of the college with a direct reporting structure and assist in evaluations of others as needed;
• Abides by the institutional affirmative action plan when selecting staff;
• Assists in identifying professional development needs, develops long-range professional development plans and supports the faculty by organizing and directing programs for professional growth;
Curriculum Duties
• Works cooperatively with the administration and faculty to develop relevant degree and certification programs which serve the needs of community;
• Reviews and revises or deletes out-of-date programs and courses in collaboration with faculty;
• Serves as resource person to other units of the college for the purpose of effective operation (e.g., recommending material for the library, coordinating remediation strategies associated with courses in the division, etc.);
• Remains active in professional organizations by attending and presenting at regional and national conferences;
• Develops schedule of classes to be taught each term which fits in the general scheduling policy of the college. Included is the staffing of those classes and supporting those staff, (e.g., textbooks, syllabi, supplies, orientation, etc);
• Approves textbook adoption and coordinates with the bookstore for ordering adequate supply;
• Teaching duties as assigned;
General Administrative Duties
• Develops goals and objectives that align with the college's strategic plan;
• Serves on pertinent committees as assigned;
• Prepares budget requests/reports for the President for area of responsibility;
• Supervises the expenditure of funds, e.g., approve equipment, supplies, travel, etc.;
• Provides support for initiatives of the college that may affect the operation of the college, (e.g., performance funding procedures, grant activities);
• Recommends policies or change in policies that would enhance the operation of the college;
• Implements a program of continuous improvement in collaboration with President and faculty;
• Compiles, interprets, and shares data/information that can be used to increase the college's effectiveness and efficiency.
Community Relations Duties
• Establishes and maintains a functional and effective program specific advisory boards involving the major stakeholders served by the college;
• Coordinates all publications, brochures, pamphlets and other information products/services.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Five years' college-level teaching, instructional management or academic leadership experience required;
• Master's Degree in Education, nursing or related academic/health care field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education required;
• Doctorate Degree preferred.
Required Licensure:
Professional license applicable to Master degree/specialty background required.
License not required for those with PhD
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
