Oliver Wyman is looking for a freight rail specialist to be part of our team. You will join with our other rail experts, working directly with clients such North American and international freight railroads, rail industry suppliers, private equity firms, industry associations and law firms. Our projects are high profile, fast-paced and impactful.
The successful candidate will possess strong data and analytical skills, the ability to develop creative solutions and be capable of effectively communicating approaches and results to a nontechnical audience. Projects typically involve small teams interacting directly with clients, with a moderate amount of travel. Most of the time will be spent on project work, with some time dedicated to developing data and platforms for use by other teammates.

Key Responsibilities
Undertake complex quantitative, qualitative, strategic, and financial analysis through a variety of activities which include: primary and secondary research; benchmarking; model building; analyzing client or public sourced data; and, evaluating improvement initiatives
Supporting the development and maintenance of the firm’s rail/surface transportation analytical models
Become familiar with rail/surface transportation industry data sources, issues, and trends
Collect and summarize market insights about rail/surface transportation, trends and policies in a cohesive, creative manner
Research historical data to map trends and determine how they will influence the industry in the future
Take primary accountability for building and maintaining the rail/surface transportation’s industry data bases and regular reporting
Support the development of data driven tools and capabilities for the rail/surface transportation practice to be used in client facing implementations or for internal work supporting client engagements
Work closely and productively within project teams and clients to achieve established goals
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university, or equivalent experience/training – preferably in a data or computer science, operations research, systems engineering or other relatable field
Data & Analytics, modelling and large data base manipulation skills
Skills and Attributes:

Strong interest in the transportation industry – with experience and interest in freight rail a plus

Desire and capability at building repeatable and well documented analytical toolkits that can be used more broadly by the consulting staff or clients
Advanced Microsoft Office Excel and Tableau skills with proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Power Point
Advanced SQL and Python skills required. Other languages a plus.
Demonstrated proficiency in building large scale relational databases, performing sophisticated analysis and building complex models using these skills
Effective written and verbal communication, time management, and organization skills
Deliverables oriented with the ability to adapt to a fast paced and changing work environment
Ability to be productive in a team environment and interface professionally, credibly, and objectively with colleagues and clients
