The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health of the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH) invites applications for a full-time, tenure or tenure-track, faculty member at the assistant or associate professor level. Academic rank and employment status will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position may start as early as Fall, 2022.
The Department's growing teaching and research interests include climate and environmental justice, focusing on a range of health risks of environmental or occupational hazards including water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); chemical exposures; sustainable cities and food systems; ambient and household air pollution; sub-optimal temperatures and hydrometeorological extremes; or infectious diseases.
GWSPH is a leader in public health science. As the only school of public health in the nation’s capital, faculty and students have an opportunity to work closely with government agencies in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, as well as international organizations and diplomatic representations headquartered there. Washington, DC also hosts numerous foundations and non-governmental and international consulting organizations with health and development portfolios. GW has robust infrastructure to support research, including laboratory facilities dedicated to the School of Public Health in a brand-new state-of-the-art Science and Engineering Hall located in the heart of the GW Foggy Bottom campus and high-performance computing for analysis of large datasets. The University, School, and Department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff.
The Environmental and Occupational Health Department has a growing portfolio of environmental and occupational health teaching, research, and service, and the translation of research to policy and practice. We offer MPH degrees in Environmental Health Science and Policy and Global Environmental Health through our residential program, as well as two doctoral degrees. We recently launched the GW Climate and Health Institute (https://climatehealth.gwu.edu/) and offer a Climate and Health Concentration in our online MPH@GW program.
