Position Summary: The Security Officer is responsible for the security of the CMC facilities and the safety of its patients, staff, employees, and visitors within its boundaries. He/she is responsible for filing reports, conducting investigations, and assuring that all hospital safety and security policies are met by all concerned. This position works under limited supervision. Work situations are a variety of routine and non-routine situations and functions requiring a service oriented individual, discretion, good judgement, and physical prowess. Internal contacts include staff and management throughout the organization. External contacts include visitors, patients, physicians, and local law enforcement agencies. Position Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent preferred
One to three (1-3) years experience in police, military police, or security, preferable in a health care setting
Successful completion of Hospital Security Officer Basic Training program and receipt of certification through the International Association for Hospital Security and Safety Foundation within the first 90 days of employment preferred
No felony convictions
No misdemeanor convictions within 3 years.
No pattern of criminal behavior
Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of a safe driving record (which meets established CMC Standards) obtained by a motor vehicle report from the appropriate stateEssential Job Functions:*
Conducts patrols of all buildings and grounds within the hospital campuses
Exercises defined arrest authority as appropriate
Compiles accurate information and completes daily reports ensuring all safety and security violations or hazardous conditions are reported and corrected
Monitors personnel and visitor policies and upholds the "No Loitering" policy
Monitors traffic in the emergency room area
Monitors the visitor pass system
Monitors fire alarm panels, CCTV, and temperature and ventilation in given areas
Maintains in-house liaison with house supervisors and interfaces with the city, county, and State Patrol police departments
Provides escorts for employees and visitors
Logs daily activities and case reports into Security computer system
Adheres to CMC Attendance and Punctuality Policy and Procedure standards. Maintains reliable attendance

Constant standing and walking with occasional running, climbing, and jumping

Occasional mobile dexterity and strength to physically control, restrain, and take into custody violent person(s) to include annual training in such disciplines
Constant exposure to all weather elements to include heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
Infrequent exposure to chemical spills while securing a hazardous material site for containment and clean up
Visual ability (to include corrective lenses) to perform all above job functions and driving a vehicle
Hearing ability (to include corrective devices) to perform all above job functions
Maintain physical fitness to be able to climb several floors of stairs in emergency situations
Maintain physical fitness to be able to rapidly respond to calls for priority responses and engage a combative subject
