The Quality Specialist is primarily responsible for supplier and internal quality performance for a manufacturing environment. This position also works cross-functionally to continually improve processes at Baker with a focus on standardization, root cause/corrective action, and process improvement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a certified internal auditor, create, build upon, comply with, and audit company quality assurance standards and procedures (work instructions, and or quality/process related documents).
Support with the maintenance of nonconformance (NC) and defective material processing through records and tracking systems, including root cause and corrective actions.
Communicate effectively with vendors and colleagues to correct NC issues and limit the opportunities for quality escapes to be released to internal and external customers.
Proactively review and improve systems and processes to ensure maintenance of standards.
Utilizes statistical methods for quality analysis and improvement.
Identifies and implements corrective/preventive actions. Support the education for identifying root causes and coordinates corrective actions company wide.
Supports and directs the Supplier Quality efforts at Baker.
Ensure required specifications of the company for incoming materials and products produced.
Participates in reviews of production performance to bolster quality improvements.
Responsible for the formulation of the testing procedures for quality checks related to incoming materials and in-process/final products.
Review and revise the base of Baker incoming inspection process documentation.
Provide training to employees and updating their knowledge of quality inspection methodologies and tools.
Assist with the successful sustainment of an ISO9001:2015 QMS.
Responsible for making sure the manufacturing processes are performed correctly using the right tools, materials, and processes.
Adhere to all safe work practices and contributes to the health, safety, and environmental program and culture.
Make every effort to focus on doing-it-right to make sure the customer is happy or satisfied with our units.
Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS:
Supplier Quality Performance Scorecard and reporting
Baker final inspection and layered process audit improvement results.
Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
Must be able to bend, and lift parts/materials/units weighing up to 50 lbs. with help occasionally.
ASQ Certification required or working towards certification, CQE, CQA, CSQP or equivalent
Strong statistical background
Minimum 2 years quality supplier program development or operation in a manufacturing organization preferred.
Strong communication skills (verbal/written)
Proficient facilitator and problem solver
Knowledge of ISO and applicable customer and regulatory standards.
Must be willing to work overtime as necessary. Extra hours may be required during business peaks.
Lean and/or 6 Sigma green belt certification preferred
