Director - Clinical Risk Management MaineHealth – Corporate Portland, ME Full Time – Day Shift
Under the direction of the MaineHealth System Senior Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management, the MaineHealth Director of Risk Management is responsible for collaboratively leading and coordinating a system-wide clinical risk management program aimed at improving patient safety and reducing organizational risk.
The Director of Risk Management will be responsible for providing direction and management support for MaineHealth’s system-wide clinical risk management program, serving as a resource for safety- and risk-related training and coaching and supporting the system’s Legal and Finance teams in matters related to malpractice litigation and potentially compensable events (PCEs). The Director will conduct system-wide risk assessments, identify potential gaps, and recommend areas for improvement. In addition, the Director will be responsible for conducting relevant trainings, coaching staff, providing expert advice, and assisting the legal team in medical record review and document preparation for litigation, negotiation, and settlement. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the MaineHealth Mission and Values in Action.
Bachelor's degree in a clinical field required; Master’s degree Nursing, Public Health, Business, Business or Healthcare Administration, or enrolled in a master’s level program strongly preferred.
Licensed in a clinical field. CPRHM certification or completion in one year from hire date,
Minimum ten years’ experience in clinical field with 5 years in acute care setting required; minimum 5 years’ experience in Risk Management.
Expert knowledge of risk management, just culture concepts, patient safety initiatives and quality management.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills required; negotiation and mediation skills are essential.
Demonstrated ability to implement and make operational patient safety initiatives, innovative ideas, and program.
Content expert with demonstrated ability to implement mitigation strategies addressing unanticipated outcomes and potential for patient harm.
Leads and motivates both reporting and non-reporting employees to accomplish organizational goals.
