The Departments of Medicine at St. Michael's Hospital and University of Toronto are seeking an internationally respected academic gastroenterologist. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and will be the recipient of an endowed Chair for a 5-year term, renewable once upon successful review. The candidate will have an academic position description of clinician-scientist (CS) or clinician-investigator (CI) with an interest in clinical research with a focus on Therapeutic Endoscopy. The expected start date is October 1, 2023 or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canadaand licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate will also have advanced training in Therapeutic Endoscopy, and a track record in research including peer-reviewed grants and publications commensurate with their academic rank. The successful candidate will also have a Master’s degree or PhD, and as a clinician scientist or investigator will devote appropriate time for research. The successful candidate will report to the Head, Division of Gastroenterology at St. Michael’s Hospital. The Division of Gastroenterology, composed of eight full time academic gastroenterologists, has an international reputation in therapeutic endoscopy, clinical research, education and quality improvement. This position will support outpatient demands and inpatient consultations, in addition to participating in the relevant educational activities, including supervision of fellowship trainees in Gastroenterology at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto and collaborate in clinical research and quality improvement programs.
Estimated remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience, and is conservatively estimated to be in the range of $400,000 to $700,000 CDN per annum based on fee for service billings and an annual payout from the endowed Chair of approximately $100,000 CDN. While the candidate holds the Chair, there will also be research operational supports. A comprehensive extended health and dental benefit program is included. The successful candidate may be eligible for relocation benefits. This position is located at 30 Bond Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
