Job Purpose: Plan, organize and control activities of the Food Service Department; to provide a high-quality, cost-effective food program to the students and staff at Unity School.
Responsibilities: Hire, train, supervise, and coordinate employees engaged in food preparation for lunch, preschool food program, and special events while maintaining an efficient, safe, and clean working environment.
Serve food that tastes and looks appetizing that meets or exceeds the student and staff expectations. The menu will be nutritionally balanced and reflect the USDA Dietary Guideline for Americans and/or My Plate guidelines.
Plan lunch program menus utilizing standardized recipes and production guides.
Keep record of meals served, raw food and supply costs, and labor costs to determine the cost of operating a fiscally sound food service program.
Determine purchasing procedures including interviewing purveyors and placing orders to ensure the lowest cost of products that meet established specifications. Maintain all inventory control procedures and records. Record and process invoices to Finance.
Daily prepare the lunch count and production records using the automated lunch ordering system. Verify each student’s lunch purchases at the end of meal service.
Lead the school’s Nutrition and Wellness Program with a focus on student, staff and parent nutrition related education.
Lead the school-wide gardening program and build working collaborations within the greater Delray Beach community in support of this program.
Work with the Director of Events and the Head of School to offer an exceptional food experience at school events.
Complies with standards from all regulatory agencies.
Attend trade shows, professional meetings, and conferences to keep informed of current practices and trends in the field.
Perform any related duties which include and are not limited to staff coverage as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management or food related major. Registered Dietitian through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Licensure with the Florida Department of Health Dietitian/Nutritionist preferred. ServSafe Food Managers Certification required. Maintain membership and continuing education requirements. 2 years related experience including supervision of food service operation preferred.
