PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide leadership excellence for the multidisciplinary team in Department of Anesthesia, comprised of eight clinical divisions and one research division, to deliver anesthesia, cardiac, anesthesia imaging, acute pain, chronic medical pain, intraoperative neuromonitoring, fetal and palliative care to patients within CCHMC and its partners. Provide excellence in teaching, mentoring and educational opportunity for Anesthesiology providers of tomorrow. To provide, communicate and implement strategic and programmatic plans to achieve the mission, vision, and values of Cincinnati Children's.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Faculty and Staff Development: Recruits, develops, and retains extraordinary faculty and staff. Leads effective and appropriate strategies and programs related to attracting, hiring, and retaining top talent. Model and creates the environment for mentorship and development of all faculty and team, such as consulting and supporting individual development plans, providing encouragement, counseling, and providing career building pathway opportunities with the goal of developing the maximum potential of each member. Conducts workforce planning, succession planning, ensures effective on-boarding and creates an engaging Faculty and employee experience. Demonstrates and assures professionalism amongst the faculty department. Assures a strong positive culture across Anesthesiology and adherence to the Cincinnati Children's mission.
Strategic Mission: Leads creation, development, implementation and assessment of short and long-term Anesthesiology strategic plans, in alignment with the institutional strategy. Works with clinical and business leadership across the organization to support other clinical division care delivery strategies and goals. Demonstrates systems thinking as an organization leader to improve value, differentiate service delivery, achieve POPT goals and enhance revenue growth within and outside our region.
Education and Training: Inspires selected faculty to develop top-notch and world-class training programs for fellows. Teaches and inspires medical students and residents to pursue training in Anesthesiology. Demonstrates ability to mentor and teach within an academic setting, including supervision and review of medical education and training programs. Provides oversight of the recruitment of fellows, usually through the Director of the Fellowship Program. Provides oversight to assure the completion of divisional resident and student curricula. Assesses the quality of teaching by faculty, assuring professionalism and a positive culture..
Clinical Care: Accountable for achieving and continually improving the outcomes of all patients cared for by Anesthesia team. Committed to Perioperative leadership partners, institute directors, division leaders, Patient Services and Operations leaders to ensure the environment for quality, efficient, innovative, and effective care, and programs throughout CCHMC inpatient and outpatient facilities. This leader will develop long-term strategy and execute safe clinical care, flow and value-based care while simultaneously driving an employee, patient, and family service culture across all sites. Builds new and maintains effective clinical partnerships aligned with our growth strategy.
Research: Responsible for maintaining, expanding, and innovating research programs within Anesthesiology, empowering our faculty and trainees. Oversees research activities and works in partnership with CCRF. Encourages and monitors faculty research productivity in developing their individual academic career goals.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with all medical center policies and applicable state and federal regulations. Oversees clinical and research quality and compliance initiatives. Partners effectively with internal departments and external agencies. Ensures compliance with all medical staff guidelines.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED: Must be a national and/or international leader with comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of Pediatric Anesthesiology. Must inspire others in the field to reach full potential in care delivery, basic and clinical research, clinical fellowship programs and others within and outside the medical center. Must have experience working in an interdisciplinary settings, perioperatively and outpatient, involving a culturally diverse population, academic university teaching, and research. Prior experience in a complex academic medical setting.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
M.D./D.O. degree or equivalent from an accredited medical school with at least ten years post-pediatric residency and fellowship in Anesthesiology or immediately similar field
Unrestricted medical license and ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) board certified.
Distinguished nationally and/or internationally recognized leader in Anesthesiology.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, ability to listen and tailor information to specific audiences.
Collegial, highly collaborative, and visible leadership with a proven track record of effectively managing a wide variety of people across a clinically and academically.
