Johns Hopkins University, Department of Otolaryngology - division of Research, is seeking to fill the Research Audiologist position. This is as a general research audiologist at the Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health. The audiologist will work in partnership with Dr. Carrie Nieman as the lead Audiologist for various studies of community-delivered hearing care. The individual will oversee audiology-related areas, including hearing screening, instruction and supervision of community health workers, and management of over-the-counter hearing technology. This includes, but is not limited, to creating and implementing audiology protocols to collect hearing data, training technicians to measure hearing, and training and supervision of community health workers to conduct hearing screening and provision of over-the-counter hearing technology. Additional duties include coordinating with various collaborators to support several community-based trials and primary data collection within community-based settings.

Key areas include:
Working with Dr. Nieman and her research team to conduct hearing screening and the training and supervision of technicians and/or community health workers in the conduct of hearing screening. Studies are based within the United States and internationally. This includes coordination with study leadership, development of manuals and support materials, training of staff, equipment ordering and monitoring, and continuous monitoring for quality assurance.
Leading the training and supervision of audiologist supervisors who will in turn train and oversee a team of community health workers delivering hearing screening and provision of over-the-counter hearing technologies. The individual will serve as a resource to audiologist supervisors and community health workers for studies based in the United States and internationally. This also includes coordination with study leadership, development of manuals and support materials, training of staff, equipment ordering and monitoring, and continuous monitoring for quality assurance.
Assisting with the creation and evaluation of audiology-related protocols within community-delivered studies led by Dr. Nieman and her collaborators at the Cochlear Center for Hearing and Public Health (i.e., device analyses and fittings, measuring hearing, communication counseling, etc.)
Collecting primary data and performing data entry on various studies. Measures include, but are not limited to, audiometric measures of hearing loss, survey response data, hearing aid information (self-report and objective analysis[electroacoustic analysis and real-ear measures])
Essential Job Functions:
Essential job functions include developing and following protocols of audiologic evaluations, over-the-counter hearing aid fitting/maintenance, aural rehabilitation, and data collection. Ability to work with a diverse group of participants, including older adults and persons living with dementia, and collaborators in community-based research studies.
