Position: Assistant Professor of Practice in Counselor Education
Stetson University seeks individuals with expertise in counselor education for two (2) twelve-month, full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice appointments beginning August 2023.
Responsibilities:
Stetson’s Counselor Education department focuses on education of the whole student through a strong foundation in the core CACREP content areas, experiential learning, and professional mentoring relationships with faculty. Thus, this professor of practice position has a strong focus on teaching and mentoring graduate students from a broad cross section of diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities center on teaching a variety of courses within our two CACREP-accredited programs in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The annual teaching load includes three (3) courses in the fall semester, three (3) courses in the spring semester, and two (2) courses in the summer semester, as well as the possibility of teaching a fourth course in the fall and/or in the spring for additional compensation (contracted separately). Responsibilities also include advising graduate counseling students in their program of study and serving on department committees.
The Department:
The graduate Department of Counselor Education (www.stetson.edu/counselor) consists of six full-time faculty members and is dedicated to preparing counselor education students to be ethically informed; developing a keen awareness of their personal strengths and resiliency; further developing an appreciation for cultural diversity, critical thinking, and creative expression; and having a deep commitment to the counseling profession and community as a whole. Our commitment is to produce stellar graduates whose work centers on helping individuals, couples, and families in a diverse world. Our faculty are engaged in initiatives that include externally funded grant activities (HRSA and The John Templeton Foundation), leadership within the American Counseling Association, collaborative work across departments within the University to enhance the health and wellbeing of our community, and local and international work centered on the development of culturally sensitive programs and interventions for vulnerable populations. These initiatives create unique and exciting opportunities for our students and for the individual who will be joining our team.
The College of Arts and Sciences:
Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences (www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/) is the largest and most diverse of the University’s colleges and schools; it includes the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, education, and creative arts. With nineteen academic departments and nine interdisciplinary programs, the College is the liberal arts core of the University. A great strength of the College is its faculty of approximately 140 full-time teacher-scholars. DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 32,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.

Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013. Experience in teaching and mentoring Master’s level students is required, and preference will also be given to candidates with experience supervising practicum and internship students. Individuals should demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, the ability to work collaboratively with others, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Qualified applicants should have an interest in contributing to the department’s commitment to increasing the quality of education for all students, including those from underrepresented groups. Applicants must be licensed or license-eligible in mental health counseling (LMHC) and/or marriage and family therapy (LMFT) in the state of Florida.
