The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Wayne State University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the assistant or associate level in the area of behavioral health and/ or health disparities. The Department has been nationally ranked in the top 20 departments for NIH funding in each of the past five years and houses MetroNet, a practice-based research network. In addition, the Department is home to multiple educational and training programs, including a CEPH-accredited MPH program and three residency programs. Areas of particular interest include research focusing on lifestyle behaviors (illness management, diet, exercise, smoking, substance use) that affect the development or progression of chronic health conditions, translation of basic research findings into effective behavioral interventions, implementation of evidence-based interventions in community settings, and health systems research. Candidates who have experience or interest in establishing partnerships with community stakeholders to develop and refine future behavioral research priorities for racial, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, sexual minority, and/ or disability populations are desirable.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in public health, psychology, medicine, epidemiology, health behavior, or other related disciplines.
The position carries responsibilities for teaching, conducting scholarly research, advising students, and contributing to program development in the department. Teaching responsibilities will include graduate level courses in the department’s MPH program. The faculty member is expected to develop/continue an independent program of research. Successful candidates will be expected to show potential to obtain external funding for research through competitive grants. In addition, capacity to participate in interdisciplinary scholarship is preferred, as departmental faculty collaborate with researchers within multiple other departments and centers across the Wayne State campus, including the Karmanos Cancer Center, the NIEHS-funded Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors, the NIMHD-funded Center for Multiple Chronic Diseases and others.
