Tyson School of Medicine. The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine is devoted first and foremost to offering an outstanding, forward-thinking medical education. Its curriculum is built on the three pillars of Biomedical Science, Clinical Science, and Health Systems Science. The Biostatistician Analyst position will support the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine research mission, collaborating with research faculty within the Department of Health Systems Science (HSS) to build a new and growing research program. HSS faculty research is wide-ranging. Major interests include disease prevention and health promotion, community-partnered research, social determinants of health, health professions education, and healthcare practice transformation across the lifespan. The Biostatistician Analyst is responsible for the development and execution of statistical analysis plans, larger data sets and current and future new studies conducted by HSS faculty. These may include controlled trials and cohort studies, psychometric analyses, econometric designs, and meta-analyses. This position will guide study design and methodology, including appropriate statistical measure selection.
Essential Responsibilities:
In partnership with Health Systems Science (HSS) research faculty, initiates, coordinates, and facilitates analytical projects to achieve study and programmatic objectives.
Contributes to peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication in leading health journals.
Designs and executes statistical analysis plans for studies that include the following approaches: prospective randomized controlled trials and cohort studies; epidemiological studies; secondary analysis of existing large national, state, and health system datasets; mixed methods analyses; psychometric analyses; econometric designs for causal inference; and meta-analysis, among others.
Identifies, evaluates, and implements appropriate measures for specified analytical project objectives, such as health, educational, and behavioral outcomes; utilization and cost; quality of and access to care; equity and disparities.
Supports development of grant proposals including study design, analysis of preliminary data, sample size calculations, etc.
Advises on the development and testing of data collection tools and methods.
Determines optimal approaches to summarizing data and communicating analytical results.
Creates written reports and presentation materials describing project methods, data, and results.
Determines the most efficient approach to data collection and validation.
Works independently to obtain needed data from KP information systems based on project or task data requirements
Builds databases and extracts, loads, cleans, and manipulates data relevant to existing and future HSS projects.
Implements specified quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of project data, results, written reports, and presentation materials.
Trains and coaches other data analysts on data retrieval techniques, programming practices, and statistical analysis and data visualization methods in the context of specific tasks.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum three (3) years of related work experience.
Master’s degree in biostatistics or related fields.
Knowledge in relevant scientific field.
Knowledge of research techniques or methods.
Analytical, problem-solving skills.
Attention to details.
Ability to write clearly and concisely in English.
Ability to create formal statistical analysis plans for research studies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) years of work experience in a related field
Experience with Kaiser Permanente data systems and the ability to pull, manage, and analyze KP data from multiple regions.
Familiarity with Kaiser Permanente health care system
Experience using R, Python, SAS, and/or STATA
Experience with intramural and extramural research funding
