SUMMARY OF JOB: Directs and coordinates activities of the manufacturing and laboratory areas, including facility and safety activities, and aids President in formulating and administering organization policies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.
Must have a demonstrated ability to lead an operating team to a successful result, to maintain high levels of performance of the key operating initiatives of safety, efficiency, and quality, and demonstrated ability to create a continuous improvement culture.
SALARY: Dependent on experience.
Management
Directs the manufacturing and laboratory personnel in the planning, processing, and manufacturing development of ferrite powder products and in the custom processing of materials.
Responsible for the safety of all employees by directing the safety committee and the use of outside services and is responsible for meeting obligations under IOSHA and OSHA.
Participate in formulating and administering Company policies and developing long-range goals and objectives.
Participate in corporate strategic planning, creation of annual business plans, and make recommendations for departmental budgets.
Responsible for development of departmental employees, including training requirements, recruitment, and programs of learning.
Administer bargaining unit contract for hourly employees under his/her direction.
Assist in negotiating new bargaining unit contracts on their expiration.
Continuously update operations knowledge through participation in seminars, courses, and associations.
Develop tracking mechanisms to monitor productivity, efficiency, energy utilization, and labor utilization.
Quality System
Responsible for management of the quality system in the Manufacturing Department including administration of quality documentation; administration of the Corrective Action Program, preventive maintenance, and calibration programs; qualification and training of personnel, participation in internal and external audits and identification of resources required to ensure customer satisfaction.
Participate in management review meetings for our Quality System.
Responsible for maintaining adherence to ISO and CGMP standards utilizing operating team and support personnel.
Assure that processes comply with plannings and are conducted consistent with quality system documentation.
Ensure appropriate management systems are in place so that products are properly labeled, packaged, and stored for delivery to shipping in a timely fashion.
Process Engineering
Oversee development of new plannings, operating procedures, and process procedures to meet quality standards, ensuring operability and safety.
Participate in reviews of new product development and feasibility assessments for scale up work.
Periodically review equipment performance levels in terms of yield, efficiency, and ease of operation and conduct trials for the purpose of increasing efficiency and output without sacrificing quality. Update plannings accordingly, and document results and keep historical data.
Work to develop yield calculations of assigned products through various process stages of their manufacture.
Participate in periodic product process reviews and implement any resulting action items.
Facilities
Understand and ensure the facility meets EPA and IDEM compliance regulations, utilizing operating staff and support personnel. Hold periodic reviews to verify that all Title V air permit, offsite waste, and reporting requirements are met.
Champion and lead plant improvement efforts such as 5S, efficiency initiatives, cost savings, and expansions.
Develop priority and capex schedule for facility upgrades, improvements, and repairs utilizing engineering and maintenance resources.
Oversee the completion of estimates, design, procurement, and installation of approved capital projects; administer capital projects to ensure adherence to project schedules and cost budgets.
Reduce energy costs through utility interface, energy conservation measures and consultation with other departments.
