This is a professional position that supports the HVAC, and other mechanical systems. This position requires knowledge in the HVAC, controls and energy management areas, utility systems with secondary knowledge in plumbing, electrical and general maintenance. Technical skills to successfully assemble plans and specifications for complex repairs/maintenance, equipment replacement, modifications, hydronic distribution systems and balancing associated with HVAC, refrigeration and other mechanical systems on the LSU Campus.
Job Duties:
30%- Perform technical work in designing utility, HVAC and other mechanical systems to facilitate preventative maintenance program, repairs, modifications and replacement. Assist in the planning of Capital Outlay, Deferred Maintenance and University funded projects.
15%- Orders the necessary equipment/materials, prepares shop drawings and instructions for Facility personnel to preform preventative maintenance, repairs, modifications and equipment replacement work. Provides technical engineering expertise to troubleshoot issues and identify opportunities for improvement.
15%- Assembles plans, specifications and procurement documents so work can be performed by outside contractors. Ensures compliance with applicable codes and projects are conducted in accords with LSU policies and procedures, including budgetary restrictions.
10%- Develops short range and long range plans, procedures and practices for the continuous operations, improvements and maintenance of the University's utility, HVAC and other mechanical systems. Determines the optimal design, maintenance and operation of mechanical systems. Prepares reports and budgets on mechanical projects for management.
10%- Assist Facility Planning, Design and Construction Professional Engineers in the advanced analysis and design of a variety of campus wide mechanical systems; chill water, steam, potable water, storm water, sewerage, etc.
10%- Reviews and checks plans and specifications submitted by consultant engineers of new construction or major alterations to all facilities. Insures they comply with LSU's Design Standards.
10%- Reviews and monitors design projects or construction jobs in progress and ensures adequacy of supervision; accounts for materials and processes used; and the application of project management principles. Reviews and monitors progress of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery by consultants, contractors, and/or agency personnel. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
Specific Experience: Facility Maintenance and/or Construction with emphasis on commercial HVAC and Refrigeration. Utility systems; chill water, steam, potable water, storm water, sewerage, etc. Certified in the Fundamentals of Engineering or Professional Engineering Licensure in Louisiana.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; able to reach and/or climb a ladder, climb stairs, and bend their back, must be able to operate a computer, telephone, and other office machinery, remain seated for extended periods of time, bend, squat, twist, move about to accomplish tasks, ability to receive and exchange detailed information through oral and written communication, make substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.
