Accountant II – Madison SD

 Starting Base Pay:  $33/hr. or commensurate based on qualifications and experience.

Heartland Energy is looking to hire a full-time Accountant. The successful candidate will perform general accounting duties relating to all functions of Heartland Energy, collaborating with others within the organization. This role will be responsible for accurately performing accounting transactions, reports, and financial statements in accordance with accounting standards. This includes developing and tracking budgets, the preparation of customer billings, monthly reports, preparation of audit work papers and associated reports, and economic development loan documents and reports. The ideal candidate will reside in the Madison community, be a team-oriented self-starter with precise attention to detail, and have a solid and reliable work ethic.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• An associate degree in accounting and five years of accounting experience may be considered. CPA licensure or higher education is a plus.
• Knowledge and proficiency of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive financial statements and reports.
• Must possess a high level of professional integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
• Ability to develop positive working relationships with a variety of individuals.
• High level of proficiency in using Excel and Power Point.
• SAGE Accounting software experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills.
• A record of team project and/or people leadership skills along with the willingness to take initiative, meet deadlines, and understand the business.
• A strong commitment to excellence and to personal and professional growth.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
