The main function of the Financial Systems Group is to be the liaison between IT and Financial Operations to including data analysis, documenting business requirements, system troubleshooting, audit support, project re-implementation support and conducting file uploads, query and reporting development and training.
The Patient Safety Business Analyst serves as a subject matter expert for patient safety metrics and data, monitors industry trends and best practices, recommends metrics and areas of focus, and inspires and supports improvement initiatives. This role is responsible for analyzing patient safety data to understand and improve patient safety and quality at Fred Hutch. The incumbent will be a subject matter expert for the software systems and tools used to capture, track, and report on patient safety incidents.
Responsibilities
- Advocates for processes, tools, and data associated with Fred Hutch incident reporting systems; to include producing reports as requested, coordinating with the other entities to maintain standard processes, and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to identify, support, and measure improvement initiatives.
- Maintains and updates internal organization patient safety education.
- Analyzes data and communicates insights to key stakeholders through effective storytelling and data visualization including graphical displays, dashboards, and presentations.
- Independently reviews patient charts for specific patient safety concerns and audits.
- Ensures data integrity and troubleshoots issues with internal and external stakeholders; partners with vendors to optimize feedback collection methods and effectively utilize vendor-generated reports and resources.
- Manages patient safety related data uploads to both internal Tableau and external sources.
- Conducts qualitative data analysis, including thematic analysis and coding of Serious Event Classification patient safety events and input from other sources.
- Collaborates with other members of the Patient Safety team to deliver customized follow up to leaders, staff and providers based on the individual area's safety event concerns based on internal safety report and Culture of Safety results.
- Manages the Action Item database and ensures accurate data capture, reporting of item progress and sustainability, and follow up related to reportable events.
- Provides Patient Safety project management support as identified including working with clinical leadership to create project timelines, define deliverables and measurement strategies, communicates with key stakeholders, and report outcomes back to Patient Safety.
- Coordinates and facilitates Sentinel Event Alert gap analyses, Patient Safety Awareness Week activities and other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a health care related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably using clinical systems to create reports or participating in patient safety initiatives.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to identify and triage issues appropriately.
- Ability to organize and prioritize concurrent responsibilities and demands.
- Ability to use initiative and sound judgment in carrying out responsibilities.
- Ability to meet timelines for assigned tasks.
- Ability to train others in how to use systems.
- Computer skills in word processing, graphics, spreadsheet, and database systems.
Preferred:
- Master's degree
- Continued education in informatics area
- Licensed Registered RN in the State of Washington
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional Patient Safety (CPPS)

The hourly pay range for this position is from $78,075 to $117,113 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
