The Opportunity
The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for two, 9-month, tenure-earning assistant professor positions. The expected start date is Fall2024. Candidates with expertise in health, lifestyle, social, and cultural factors impacting disease risk/progression and quality of life among vulnerable/marginalized populations are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Health Sciences is the home to 15 full-time faculty and approximately 3600 undergraduate students in the major and about 400 students in the minor. We offer an undergraduate degree in Health Sciences with two tracks – Pre-Clinical and Health Promotion. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a productive line of research; publish in highly-ranked, peer-reviewed journals in their discipline; pursue and secure external funding to support their research program; teach undergraduate and future graduate courses; mentor students in research and provide them with sound advice for professional development; participate in internal and external professional service activities; and demonstrate collegiality in all aspects of faculty engagement. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The teaching load for this position is 2/2.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in a health sciences-related discipline from an accredited academic institution by the start of the appointment.
A record of scholarly research, peer-reviewed publications, and other scholarly activities especially those addressing health equity.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated teaching experience and effectiveness as the instructor of record at an institution of higher education in subjects similar to those comprising the core Health Sciences curriculum at UCF.
Evidence of effective student mentoring, including mentoring teaching assistants and undergraduate/graduate student theses.
Experience conducting community-based participatory and mixed methods research.
