Instructor: $85,000/year
Assistant Professor: $100,000/year
Salary may vary based on faculty rank, the scope of the position, and qualifications of the applicant. In addition to salary, CUSM offers a comprehensive benefits package and professional development funds.

Our University
The California University of Science and Medicine was founded to help overcome the health disparities experienced by the diverse populations of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties in southern California. The Inland Empire is a medically underserved area ranking in the lower half of all counties in California for physicians per capita. The Department of Medical Education
The Department offers a Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences as well as a Doctor of Medicine degree. There are 60 students per year in the Masters program and 130 students per year in the MD program. The faculty consists of basic science and clinical instructors, with nearly all of those instructors having terminal degrees. The basic science faculty, clinicians, and students are engaged in research and scholarly activities.

Position Purpose
The Biostatistician is a member of the CUSM Faculty. Their primary responsibilities are dedicated to training students in the basics of statistical theory, biostatistical and bioinformatics methods in planning studies, conducting analyses, and writing reports, the interpretation of numeric data for scientific inference in studies in medicine and public health, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with scientists in related disciplines. Application areas include observational studies, clinical trials, computational biology and quantitative genomics, medical and public health research, among other areas.
In addition to teaching responsibilities the Biostatistician will provide support to students and faculty in these areas as well. They will also work with faculty, research staff, and students to perform statistical analyses and other tasks to support qualitative and quantitative data collection, analyses, and reporting for research projects and scholarly activity. The successful candidate will also advise and/or mentor students in individual or group research projects in the various research programs available in our curriculum.

Teaching responsibilities
Teach Masters and medical students the principles of statistics, research methods, tools, and data mining skills
Provide research support services for faculty and students research needs and assist them in quantitative and/or qualitative research projects related to both basic science and clinical disciplines
Work with the faculty and students on the statistical methods and analysis for their research activities addressing strategies and methods to generate research questions and build scientific hypotheses from research data sets.
Contribute to educational activities related to teaching of basic statistical principles, procedures, data collection/management, and software training.
University service work includes serving on committees, mentoring and advising students, overseeing student research activities, and other service as required
Play a key role in the evaluation of assessment tools
Other Essential Responsibilities
Build and support collaborative relationships with individuals in different disciplines and serve as statistics expert for research teams, internal and external committees, and collaborators.
Assists in the preparation of clinical trial documents and reports, protocols, investigator brochures, scientific abstracts, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and responses to requests from regulatory agencies, CUSM Institutional Review Board, and grant reports to funding agencies when applicable.
Conduct and participate in research within the Department of Medical Education and clinical sites
Design studies using advanced statistical methods to answer questions of public health using a mixture of institutional clinical data and large nation-wide datasets
Generate and interpret statistical outputs through presentations, reports, figures, and tables
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in Public Health, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or similar discipline; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the application of Biostatistics and Epidemiology to Basic Science and/or Medicine
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Expertise in statistical software such as R, SPSS, SAS, or other statistical software programs.
Documentation of relevant scholarly and research activity
Desirable Qualifications
Teaching experience in the health professions
PhD in Biostatistics
Familiarity of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99). This law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education
