The Department of Biosystems Engineering (www.eng.auburn.edu/bsen), College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor and Extension Specialist of Machine Systems Engineering. This is 12-month, tenure track faculty (70% extension, 30% research) and will be filled at the rank of assistant/associate professor. The projected start date is August 1, 2024.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized and highly integrated evidence-based extension and applied research programs in machine systems engineering that focus on the use of technologies in modern agriculture and forest production systems. The candidate is expected to (a) support, provide technical training, and engage with farmers, producers, client groups, stakeholders and regional/county extension coordinators in Alabama and beyond regarding technologies, smart systems, and components used in ag and forestry machine and equipment; (b) establish and maintain a strong, extramurally funded Extension and applied research program; (c) disseminate extension and research scholarship through a variety of media including publications, websites, distance learning, demonstrations, conference presentations, and other formats; (d) work independently and in collaboration with other departmental faculty, and with colleagues within the College of Agriculture who conduct extension and research in agronomic crops; (e) participate in and assist program teams in the development of annual plan of work and federal reporting; (f) engage and mentor students in development and delivery of education tools and programs; and (g) provide leadership to the profession through state and national professional society participation.
Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in biosystems, biological, agricultural, or closely related engineering disciplines by the expected position start date. Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative work in Machine Systems Engineering is required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across disciplines and develop a collaborative Extension and research program. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment. Desirable qualifications include Extension experience in machine systems; demonstrated experience in program development, delivery and evaluation, and professional engineering registration or the ability to pursue licensure as a Professional Engineer. Candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor are strongly encouraged, but those with an established reputation as a leader in field of machine systems engineering will also be considered at the rank of Associate Professor. Examples of documented evidence of established reputation may include, but not limited to, evidence of ability to sustain externally sponsored funding to support Extension and applied research programs, and sustained programming in Extension Machine Systems Engineering.

The Department: The Department of Biosystems Engineering consists of 19 full?time faculty who solve problems in biological systems through innovative engineering research, teaching and extension activities.
