Under direction, performs engineering design tasks related to roadway geometrics, drainage, maintenance of traffic, pavement markings, signage, traffic signals, and traffic engineering studies. The position will require a self-starter that can independently learn the standard processes and procedures that will be used to design and deliver a variety of roadway transportation projects. The Project Engineer must be able to deliver multiple tasks for different engineering leads while meeting deadlines and adhering to budgetary constraints. Some regional travel may be required. Qualified candidates will have a strong, background in roadway/highway design.
Tasks
Executes required aspects of roadway engineering based on a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and some advanced concepts under the direction of lead engineers.
Assists lead engineers with technical and management collaboration.
Collaborate with lead engineer for project progress and status reports, schedule, and budget.
Tracks the progress of deliverables, client reviews, technical input, and comment resolution.
Act as lead engineer on smaller projects.
Skills + Qualifications
BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university is mandatory
5+ years of transportation design experience
Design experience with Illinois Department of Transportation is preferred.
Professional Engineer License in IL is mandatory with the ability to submit for reciprocity
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Skilled with CAD/Design Software (MicroStation SS10, GeoPak, ORD)
