The City of Madison Traffic Engineering Division is looking to hire their next Traffic Engineer 4 (Operations and Safety Section Head). This position is a managerial position as the head of the Operations and Safety Section of the Traffic Engineering Division. The work involves the planning, coordination and performance of a wide variety of projects and activities within the area of specialization and involves supervision of lower-level staff and professional traffic engineers. The work involves a high level of independence and action, a broad range of assignments and responsibility for the City of Madison’s Traffic Signing, Pavement Markings and the analysis and review of the operations and safety performance of all users within the traveled right-of-way. The work is performed under the direction of the Director of Traffic Engineering, Assistant Director of Traffic Engineering and is characterized by independent judgment and major program and project responsibilities and is reviewed through periodic conferences and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of advanced-level professional traffic engineering experience, equivalent to the Traffic Engineer 2 level in the City of Madison, which includes two (2) years of experience overseeing, directing and leading the work of lower level staff.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in civil, electrical, traffic, transportation engineering, or a closely related field.

Four (4) years experience in applying the following:
Traffic engineering principles and practices.
Civil and electrical engineering construction and design practices as they apply to the design, construction and operation of transportation and traffic control facilities.
Operation of traffic signal controllers and traffic signal networks.
Computers and computer software applications for traffic engineering, including computer assisted design processes and techniques.
Statistics and math necessary to analyze traffic data.
Two (2) years experience in applying the following:
