The Department of Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering (ABEN), North Dakota State University, is seeking a highly motivated faculty member to serve as a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor to conduct research in the field of precision agriculture. The appointment is based on a 12-month contract, and renewal of that contract will be dependent upon satisfactory performance. The funding for this position is provided by on-going research effort with USDA ARS. The Research Assistant Professor is expected to establish an independent research program in support of a cooperative agreement with the USDA ARS on the use of UAS/UAV, data management systems, and bioinformatic tools that integrate genetics and environment into the precision management of regional crops. The hired research faculty member will also investigate new initiatives to support additional cooperative agreements. Independent research programs may focus on areas such as, but not limited to, applications of sensors for precision agriculture and precision livestock, machinery technologies, chemical and fertilizer application technologies, big data management and analytics, remote sensing, and machine learning applications in imagery and precision ag data analysis to support precision management of soils, crops, and livestock. The position is housed in the NDSU Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering department, and the department chair will provide supervision.
Ph.D. in agricultural and biological systems engineering, agronomy, crop science, soils science, precision agriculture, or closely related field at time of appointment. Research experience, knowledge and technical expertise in precision agriculture technologies. Excellent written and oral communication skills for various audiences. Ability to work as a multidisciplinary team member. Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues and students. Experiences in computer applications and technology to meet position requirements. Valid U.S. driver's license or equivalent.
