The Director of Professional Development is responsible for strategic and operational direction in designing, ensuring implementation, and evaluation of all Professional Development services and programs for Saddleback Medical Center. Professional Development services includes the planning of continuing education programs with oversight for the Board of Registered Nursing continuing education provider license, clinical laboratory science continuing education accrediting agency license, and board of behavioral sciences continuing education provider license; on-site specialty training programs (extern, patient care assistant/technician, others); off-site specialty training program support to include MHS classes for Partnership Council orientation and Preceptor programs; all centralized nursing orientation programs to include new graduate nurse programs; management of the American Heart Association affiliation for BLS, ACLS and PALs certifications, with additional oversight of NRP and community CPR programs; preparation and support for student clinical rotations; direct management and supervision of the Professional Development clinical educators and EPIC certified site trainers; accountable for ensuring standards of nursing practice, state scope of practice and applicable regulatory guidelines are adhered to and appropriately taught in all programs under the Professional Development realm (examples include evidence based practice, BPT information dissemination, Clinical Practice Model Resource Center information, and standardized nursing procedures or STPs) All programs must meet high quality standards and comply with applicable law, regulation and accreditation standards (Title 22, OSHA, Joint Commission, etc.).
This position is responsible for EPIC training for all users to include hired staff, temporary contracted clinical staff, physicians, volunteers and other contracted staff. This includes continuing support for upgrades, continued communication via electronic information releases, and support during implementation and optimization efforts. Intranet support via training and publisher support for all web pages and MC21 information. This position is responsible for the on-line learning management system including Sumtotal (MHS title: YouLearn) and Online Nursing Skills and its content, support to its users, development of instructors to manage the system, and functions as the administrative representative for the campus. Additionally, this position is responsible for overseeing the American Nurse’s Credentialing Centers Magnet program standards are being met.
